Top DS Games
The Nintendo DS is famed for producing the most innovative and immersive games around, combining old favourites with new ambitious projects. Here we take a look at what are, in our humble opinion, the best offerings from this system:
remember Legacy of Kage? The classic of classic games finally gets a long awaited sequel straight for the DS in Legacy of Kage 2.
Taking control of the titular character, you can perform all manner of
mysitcal and magical moves, including death defying jumps and blade skills that would leave any ninja envious!
This title brings wildly fun and frantic action to the hand held medium. In addition to Kage you can play as his friend and she-ninja Chuhiru, who doesn't play all that differently but is a welcome addition all the same. Legend of Kage 2 brings hack n' slash action to this new age in a package well worth experiencing.
Staying with the classics, next up we have Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. The famous side scrolling
franchise returns to the DS with style and implements a few welcome
changes along the way. Dispensing with the usual good guys, Ecclesia sees newcomer Shanoa enter the fray.
In a bid to rid the world of constant evil Dracula, Shanoa dispatches enemies to absorb glyphs. Glyphs
can be utilized as melee weapons or magic as the player sees fit, interchanged
throughout the adventure to deal with differing enemies.
Order of Ecclesia definately an instant classic and almost reason enough alone to consider purchasing the Nintendo DS!
Finally, and in keeping with our classics appreciation, we have Chrono Trigger. This title made its fame by introducing time-traveling innovations, as much of the main and side quests are accomplished by journeying into the past and taking action that manipulates the future to your advantage.
Gone are the random encounters that are such a usual staple of RPGs. Instead you can see your enemies, and choose to avoid them if you see fit. This helps lend a fluency to the game that is often a stumbling point in other titles within the genre. The combat system also allows your three forefront party members to attack seperately or together for deadly assault combinations.
Couple these gaming innovations with the usual immersive and involving storylines and you have yourself an instant classic. Expanding on the original quests and offering a range of new
material, multiple endings await players depending on the choices made
throughout the story. This allows Chrono Trigger to be enjoyed and replayed as often as possible!
