Racing For The Wii
The motion sensing capabilities of the Wii made it an ideal candidate for the racing game genre. However, developers initially had a difficult time adapting to the new system and the racing games have been quite few and far between. A few have succeeded though, and here we list three of the best;
A Wii launch title, Excite Truck still stands strong to this day as one of the best racing games around. Whilst this title doesn't offer any multiplayer options, it instead provides a rip-roaring racing experience, wherein sheer, unadulterated speed is the law. The game, as with most other Wii racing titles, is played with the Wii remote. The remote is held in a horizontal position in front of the player and tilted from side to side to steer. Pressing the D-pad engages your boost, which can be activated at any time but will overheat and slow down your engine if overused.
The gameplay doesn't offer anything more or less than you would expect from a racing game, but the marvellous and frantic visuals take this game beyond most of its peers.
Next up we have Need For Speed Carbon. This title immerses the player in the street racing world, offerings car shops and customization options, street car races, and police car chases into the usual mix. Highly enjoyable and fast races combined with a customization system that will keep you coming back for more make this title a clear favourite in the genre.
And finally, of course, we have Mario Kart Wii. This game actually offers a total of four different control schemes, allowing for those willing to give the new system a try or catering for those diehard pad-wielders! Mari Kart simply offers an unbridled sense of fun, and with a simple, fluent control scheme it becomes a joy to play.
Mario Kart also offers online multiplayer options, which tower above the competition for offering a smooth system with which to orchestrate those crazy battles. Mario Kart really is at its best when played with your friends, offering a fun and immersive game that anyone can enjoy!
