Conduit and FPS on Wii

The First Person Shooter genre has always favoured the consoles with the power to uphold the best graphics. In light of this, developers have been loath to bring titles to the Wii; not exactly famed for graphics prowess. In spite of earlier attempts, The Conduit is set to change this viewpoint once and for all.

Conduit's developers are actually promising that the realisation of the game on Wii will look no different to the other Next gen consoles, by creating the Quantum3 engine capable of utilizing features that gamers have come to expect from the more graphically powerful consoles. These features are set to include bump mapping, material based bloom, dynamic water effects, and color gloss maps. These features are relatively unheard of within the Wii, and testers have thus far praised the ongoing development.

Paramount to the success of any Wii game is control, and Conduit promises to revolutionise this aspect also. Not only will the game utilize the WiiMotionPlus attachment for more accurate aiming, but the game's controls can be edited and shifted at the players leisure.

It now seems nothing is out of grasp for the Wii; graphics, control, innovation and gameplay. Hopefully now the Wii will not be left out cold when it comes to FPS development. Gamers know that when developers focus on making better and better graphics, they are prone to completely overlook opportunities for innovation in gameplay. Striking the right balance is the key to success in this area. Hopefully the Wii won't fall into this trap, now that it can.
